Shelley
SHELLEY MILLMAN
REGISTERED PSYCHOTHERAPIST

I offer a healing, non-judgmental, safe space for you to explore your life experiences, the influences that have contributed to who you are today, and those that continue to challenge you. My approach is not to pathologize people. Instead of seeing deficits, I see strengths and potential that may be blocked due to reactions to hurtful events in your life. You are the agent of wholeness and healing. Through sincere curiosity, empathic listening, and applying an integrative therapeutic approach that tailors the therapy to your needs, we will collaborate together to create self-awareness and self-compassion, determining new avenues to accomplish tangible goals that align with your values.

FUN FACT: I have four children, including twin boys.  I recently climbed to the summit of a Rocky Mountain in Colorado with my family, and completed a 40 km. cycle challenge.

AREAS OF EXPERTISE/HOW I CAN HELP:

My therapeutic approach tends to be client-centred, integrative and responsive to your needs, which may change over time. Giving consideration to the whole you is an integral part of the therapeutic process – including those aspects that are painful and deeply imbedded, as well as your strengths, resources and aspirations. Through a client-centred lens, I will encourage you to become more self-aware, and to improve your ability to use self-direction to make positive changes, increase clarity, and boost self-reliance.

The therapeutic modalities that I often find helpful and frequently utilize include: Narrative Therapy, CBT, Attachment-based, Emotion-Focused, Existential, Acceptance and Commitment, Strengths-based, Relational, and Solutions-focused. To each of these approaches, I bring a caring and compassionate perspective, and I often interject Mindfulness-based considerations where appropriate.

Small, consistent steps, or ‘micro-changes’ lead to notable, enduring results that occur over time. Let’s begin the journey together to building contentment, inner peace, resilience, and a healthier state of mind. Together we can work to pave the way to a brighter future for yourself!

INTERESTS: Cross-country skiing, swimming, hiking, snowshoeing, yoga, cycling, reading.
